Seems like your issue isn't that ATs are bad, but that you've made a bad design. If you have a highly skilled dupe and a light on the refinery, it's actually a power positive process in most cases (while also being self cooling). Also metal refinery should be on its own coolant loop with crude oil and a dedicated steam turbine. You're talking about absolute DTU transfer, and an AT has more absolute DTU transfer than thermo regulators. You're not going to cool a pool of polluted water any faster with thermo regulators. In other colonies, I had many problems with the power failing and the oxygen being stuck inside or before the Regulators. In my current 3200 cycle base, I have a lot of setups from polluted water over petroleum to Super coolant which cools a variety of things like the polls that my oxygen pipes run through, cooling space buildings like transformers, telescope or the Robominers with petroleum, the liquid oxygen and liquid hydrogen setups.Įven at the start, after setting up the Electrolyzer system it is just so much easier to let the oxygen pipes run through a pool of liquid (which can transfer the heat of a lot of oxygen to a single tile of liquid) than to constantly have to spend energy to keep the Regulators going that also need to be kept cool as well. But with the use of Steam turbines, there is really no need to use the Regulrators at all. The only difference is which would make them better IMO is that you can cool the Regulators with Wheezeworts. Which means that the more mass you have to cool the longer it will take to reach the desired temperature but as soon as you reach it you will not use that much energy at all.Īn Aquatuner also removes 14☌ from any type of gas and for 10kg instead of the 1kg like the Regulator. The more you heat it up the more cycles through the Aquatuner you need to cool it down. Then you have the problem of how much energy, as heat, you are pumping into the medium. With a regulator, you will have to spend the energy constantly with every pocket that is running through it. Of course, in the beginning the Aquatunerhad to run a lot just to remove the temperature from the hydrogen as well as everything else in that room but as soon as the desired temperature was reached the Aquatuner barely runs. At some point, it also keeps going on its own.Īn example, I have a liquid hydrogen setup. If you need Gas to get colder even then a Liquid Aquatuner can be better because you have a lot more mass at your disposal but it is also harder to control because you have to consider transfer times and possible lower temperatures. The thing is how and what you want to cool it and how much energy you want to get rid of.
